The most moving fairy tale

    My  father  gave  me  Little  Prince  when  I  was  5  years  old.  I  have  read  this  book  at  least  twenty  times  from  then  on.  I  grow  up  with  it, knowing  more  and  more  about  love  and  having  benefited  from  it  a  lot.

    Little  Prince  was  written  by  Antoine  de  Saint-Exupery, whose  life  was  a  legend.  The  fairy  tale  begins  with  a  crash  in  the  Desert  of  Sahara.  The  narrator, who  was  the  pilot, made  the  acquaintance  of  the  little prince.  The  little  prince  looked  at  the  world  in  the  view  of  a  child.  He  couldn’t  understand  a  lot  of  things  in  the  adults’  world.  All  of  those  interested  the  pilot.  Because  the  little  prince’s  experience  reminded  the  pilot  of  his  own  childhood.  He  used  to  draw  a  picture  like  this(a  picture  of  a  boa  constrictor  digesting  an  elephant)                                

after  he  read  about  how  a  boa  constrictor  swallowed  its  prey  whole, without  chewing  it.  But  all  the  grown-ups  couldn’t  understand  it.  They  said  that  obviously  it  was  a  hat.  From  then

               

on, the  pilot  was  so  disappointed  that  he  didn’t  create  something  interesting  any  more.  He  decided  to  bring  himself  down  to  the  adults’  level.

    The  pilot  was  curious  about  where  the  little  prince  came  from. So  he  asked  a  lot  of  questions.  From  the  answers,  the  pilot  knew the  secret  of  the  little  prince’s  life.  The  little  prince  lived  on  a  small  planet.  There  was  only  a  rose  and  three  volcanoes  on  it.  He  quarreled  with  the  rose  who  in  fact  loved  him  deep  and  decided  to  leave  his  planet.

    He  visited  some  planets  and  met  plenty  of  people  and  animals  including  king, conceited  man, tippler, businessman, lamplighter, geographer, snake, a  garden  of  roses, fox  and  railway  switchman.  The  writer  is  good  at  symbolist  writing.  The  whole  fairy  tale  is  full  of  philosophical  connotations. Each  man  represents  one  kind  of  people, so  do  the  animals For  example, the  fox  is  the  avatar  of   solomon,  He  helped  the  little  prince  realize  that  his  rose  was  unique  even  there  were  quantities  of  roses  in  the  world.  The  fox  raised  the  concept  tame.   The  fox  said  to  the  little  prince” If  you  tame  me, it  will  be  as  if  the  sun  came  to  shine  on  my  life.   Look: you  see  the  grain-fields  down  yonder?  I  do  not  eat bread.  Wheat  is  of  no  use  to  me. The  wheat  fields  have  nothing  to  say  to  me.  And  that  is  sad. But  you  have  hair  that  is  the  color  of  gold. Think  how  wonderful  that  will  be  when  you  have  tamed  me!  The  grain, which  is  also  golden, will  bring  me  back  the  thought  of  you.  And  I  shall love  to  listen  to  the  wind  in  the  wheat..."  

    At   last, the  little  prince  wanted  to  return  to  his  planet.  He  asked  snake  to  bite  himself.  The  prison  took  effect  quickly.  Although  the  pilot  was  very  sad, he  knew  it  was  necessary  for  the  little  prince  to  go  .  Because  for  him, the  earth  was  not  the  suitable  place  for  him.  At  the  same  time, he  missed  his  rose. He  understood  to  judge  one  by  his  deeds  and  not  by  his  words.

    The  little  prince  represents  the  loneliness  of  human  being.  The  universe  is  so  big,  where  is  the  really  home  for  human?  Anyway,  it  is  a  sad  story.  It  has  moved  so  many  people, teaching  people  how  to  love.  I’d  like  to  be the  fox  waiting  for  love.  Please, tame  me.

 

 

 

 

 

                         

         

 

                 

 

Why I study English

I often ask myself this question, but to be honest, I don't know why. In China, when I was in primary school, many of my classmates attended extracurricular English courses, so my parents asked me to do the same. But at that time, I really had a plan that I could talk with native English speaker fluently after several years of English learning. A few months later, I found I was wrong, what I had had planed was exactly impossible without a language environment. As the time passed by, I drew a conclusion that passing the exam was ok, nobody would care how your oral English was and whether you could communicate with foreigners who speak English. So before I came to Singapore, I study English mostly for passing the exams and having high scores. In my spare time, I also studied some English just because of so many words which I don't understand in computer games, as we all knowed that many popular games were programed by certain American companies.
Fortunately I was chosen as a scholar of NUS and finally got a chance to experience the education in English, but the situation I came across was far more different than that I had supposed in China. Tutors speak English with an accent which is quite different from American English or British English. Some tutors speak too fast, sometimes I can't follow. I think these are the difficulities I have to adapt to. But more problems exsit in daily life, some local men insist speaking Chinese to you even when you speak English to them, when you come to Macdanald or other fast food restaurants you can't get what you want to eat. And I still remembered the situation in my orientation camp, my group leader talked with her friends in English too fast which I think even faster than Mrs Nora, I can only understand two sentences : Hello and OK. So I think this is only the problem of speaking and listening and is only the ability I look foward to.
Now nearly four weeks of English study have passed and I think I've improved a little. I understand the real reason to study English:just communication!

My Favourite Film:Leon

I don't know how many times I have watched film on my computer, but every time I watch it, I will have a different understanding. The English name of the film was Leon, but its Chinese translation is very funny, it deviates from the director's original idea to some extent. The film was written and directed by Luc Besson. It is a story happened among a girl from a narcotics bussinessman's family named Mathilda, a killer named Leon and a officer named Stansfield. The story is quite simple, Mathilda's family was all killed in a conflict of narcotics and she was rescued by Leon to be the only one alive but her four- year -old brother was killed by Stansfield. So she wanted to revenge and asked Leon be her teacher. Leon was a professional killer, he led a life though being hired by some people to kill somebody they disliked. One day Mathilda slipped into the building where Stansfield worked and felt like killing him, but unfortunately she was found. In order to save her, Leon killed the followers of Stanfield. But a few days later, Stansfield came to revenge with nearly two hundred people. Leon made Mathilda survive but he himself couldn't. He almost succeeded in surviving but was found by Stansfield at last. They perished together.
Many people think that the film mainly told us a story of a killer. The killer was influenced by Mathilda and had a life he had never led before, he could sleep in a bed and did not have to be awake in the night. He could have a normal life. But I don't think so. I suppose that it mainly tell us the director's opinion on revenge. People seem to revenge in the daily life, but the result of it is never good, both sides suffered a lot. Mathilda wanted to revenge for her brother but failed. Leon killed two people so as to save Mathilda but was revenged by Stansfield, both of them died. We should learn to forgive, learn to forget. Don't think of too much about the past, forgive others is to save yourself at the same time. Great wisdom is hidden in the little things happend everyday, we need to think and learn to have our own understanding. Leon said a wise sentence in the film"once you killed a person, your whole world would change".
So it's time to think of how to live in the world ourselves. Learn from yesterday, live for today and hope for tomorrow! Learn to be open-minded, learn to forgive! That is what I learned from the film :Leon~~

Eating In Singapore

Hunger is a natural appetite of human beings. That is why eating is a universe theme for everyone in this planet. I am a person who is always charmed by delicious food. After coming to Singapore for about one month, I am enchanted by different kind of food here. I should say that if you want know about global cuisine, please come to Singapore.

Chinese Food

Since Chinese people take up about 70% of Singapore’s population, Chinese food also contributes a lot to Singapore’s food. Because most Chinese people came here was original Cantonese and Hakka, as a result, their food become popular here. Chicken rice may be the most outstanding dish here together with coconut rice and duck rice or Hakka dishes. Amazingly, you can also find food from other regions of China, like Hot Pot, roasted chicken, Generally speaking, what kind of food you can find in China, you can also find it here in Singapore.

Western Food

As Singapore is a country which is contended with both eastern and western culture, we can not only enjoy the food from eastern China but also from western countries. No matter it is a 2-dollar chicken cutlet in a food court or a 100-dollar black pepper steak in a luxurious hotel, all western food here taste originally delicious, which can be proved by the fact that almost no western people prefer to have a different kind of food other than western food. I am a person who is fond of western food. I guess this must be a reason that L like Singapore.

Indian Food

To be honest, I haven’t tried Indian food in person. But my friends are always trying to persuade me to try it, because they say it is tasty, which is out of my expectation. In my opinion, Indian food is very special. Examples are followed: In Chinese dishes, the main course is always integrated with rice, which is also the same in Indian dishes. But the rice is totally different, the rice is steamed with other materials which they think it will be nice in this way. For the main course, we Chinese people attach more importance on the image of the dish than Indians. When it comes to the content, they like chicken and fish very much, at the mean time we like pork. But any way, I will try Indian food, I believe I will like it.

Malaysian Food

I like Malaysian food, because the flavor of Malaysian food is quite similar to Sichuan food. They have Malaysian roasted food which remind me of the roasted chicken in Sichuan. They usually prefer to enjoying food accompanied with little chilly sauce which is the ritual for us Sichuan people when having a meal. They like chicken drums, fish, beef ……nearly all kinds of meat and this is the point which is so absorbing to a carnivorous people like me. It’s said that the most valuable contribution Malaysian made to Singapore is their food.

For my concern, like a newspaper says, the most popular sport in Singapore is not soccer but eating. I simply take this as a compliment. Like the multi-culture here, the food in Singapore is also multi-cultural. Anyone who treat eating like a jolly must come to Singapore to dive into this eating trend himself!

My Favorite Novel

I still remember how I accidentally encountered my favorite book “Gone with the Wind”. It was a hot summer day, I was about to attend an extracurricular class which I didn’t want to go very much. Suddenly I saw a flash of lightning in the sky and soon after the lightning I could hear crashes of thunder. Then came the violent storm with thunder and lightning. “I won’t go out in such bad weather.” I thought, “But Mom will blame me if I waste the whole afternoon.” So I went to the bookshelf and get a book randomly. However I was ecstasized by the book soon after I had read a few pages.
The story took place in the context of the Civil War. The heroine Scarlett O’hara was born in a rich family. With a charming cheek and a slim body she enjoys parties and always wants to capture all the young men. She had lived an insouciant life like other girls whose family also owned manors when one day the war broke out and shattered the golden peace of the south. Everything changed permanently. Plantations, treasures, honors and capabilities are ruined. They don’t have enough food, they have no money to pay tax, most slaves run away… but the heaviest shock to Scarlett is her mother’s death and her father’s insanity. Such big changes can and do pull down most people. Many people don’t know how to face new live so they try to escape from reality and live in the past dreams. However, Scarlett shows surprising strength and resilience. She used her fair hands to work in the fields in the burning sun in order to raise the whole family, looked after her ill sisters, buried a foeman on her own, uses all the tricks she has in mind to marry her sister’s boyfriend only for getting enough money to pay tax in order to pertain Tara…… It’s amazing how a girl who did herself proud can change so quickly to bear hardship and adapt to hard life.
I just can’t help love Scarlett. Yes, she is selfish, vain and manipulative, but her loyalty to Tara, her strong desire to lead a better life, and her optimistic conceal her weaknesses. These valuable qualities also encourage me to carry on working hard and to hope for a better future because “Tomorrow is another day.”

Seize the day--------Dead Poets Society

“Captain!!! My captain!!! ” He is the captain of the students. He is the man who gives students courage to obey their own souls.

It is rally lucky to have a teacher like Mr. Keating, who could say no to the traditional education system and try his best to lead the students to be themselves. He encouraged the students to stand on the table to get a different view of the world. He let them wrap the first pages of their text books which wrote guidelines on reading, to allow them to enjoy poems. He inspired them to think freely and write their own poems. At first, people regarded him as a clown. However, as the time went by, more and more people accepted him and his idea. It was under his influence that Neil demonstrated his talent in acting. It was under his influence that Knox told his feeling to his favorite girl. It was under his influence that Charlie dropt his shyness and overcame the external restrains. Though Neil didn’t fulfill his ambition and committed suicide, though Knox’s love was refused, they were acting themselves. And the influence would be more obvious in the other guys in the future, I think.

As what I just mentioned, Neil killed himself with his father’s pistol, which was really tragic. Revolution is combined with blood. His death was a silent protest, not only to his parents, but also to the reality. He couldn’t give up his beloved acting. He wasn’t willing to give way to reality, either. So death could be something relaxed. That was the only thing he could act as a controller of his fate. To him, that was how his existed.

At the end of the film, Mr. Keating was forced to leave. Most of the students in the class stood on their desks to show their support for him, ignoring the headmaster’s forbidding. Those who dare to stand up, I think, had inherited the values of life from Mr. Keating--------seize the day. And I think this is the most exciting part of the film.
