Let me tell you a small story. Once upon a time, a little bird and an eagle lived happily on the east coast of Pacific Ocean. Day after day, they got bored. The oldest tree in the forest told them that the scenery on the west coast was very fascinating, so they wanted to see what the scenery was like. It said that this journey was pretty long and tough, during which they needed to eat many times, recess many times, and sleep many times. But they had made up their mind, and in no time they began to prepare.
The eagle thought, “I’m stronger than that silly bird, and I’m sure I’ll be the first one to get there. But because of the tough journey, I had better to prepare well.” He prepared a large pack, which include one big bottle of water for drinking, a small boat for recess, a comfortable sleeping bag for sleeping, and much food for eating. At last, in case he got sick and became too weak to fly, he even prepared a bag of medicine. Then he was very satisfied with these things. He thought, I have prepared so well that I can no doubt to get there first. He packed up the large pack and started off.
However, not very long after his beginning, he felt very tired about the pack. Before long, he got exhausted and couldn’t fly any longer. He had no choice but flying back to the east coast. Feeling very disappointed and frustrated, he didn’t know what to do.
All the little bird’s preparation was just a small branch. She carried it in the mouth and set out. When she was tired, she dropped the small branch into the sea and stood on it to relax. When she was sleepy, she stood on it and had a nap. When she was hungry, she stood on it to catch some fish for food. Finally, she reached the west coast half a month later. She enjoyed the exotic scenery excitedly, while the poor eagle cried on the east coast.
It is with the small branch, not with the big pack, that the little bird reached her destination.

Your blog remind me of a famous concept, travelling light. When we decide to go on a journey or achieve a new goal, we always think a lot about how we can prepare ourselves best or what we should do to get down to it. But the common circumstance is that preparations occupy a large part of our efforts and energy. So when we begin to undertake the task we have decided, we always feel exhausted and reluctant. So is it in our study. We often delay or postpone our study plan, using preparation for it as a rational excuse. But this is totally self-deception. When we begin our study plan, we always find that a lot of time has been wasted but the preparation turn out to be nonsense. So when deciding to do something, we should get down to it without any hesitation. Opportunities always befall those who not only prepared well for it, but also promptly undertake it .
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting story. It will be better for you to include a learning point from this story. As for me, the story is a reminder for one to be prepared as well as practical.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of another story. A man wanted to cross a river, but the the boat is very small. So the boatman told him that he had to abandon something. The man was unwilling to throw anything away. As a result, he could not cross the river. In your story, the eagle prepared too well.Althogh he was much stronger, he carried too many things. He failed the journey. In our real life, some of us have plenty of burdens. They are under great pressure. Many of them hardly have time to rest or to de something interests them. That is miserable. We should live happily like the little bird who has just a few things to carry. We should avoid too many burdens and too much pressure. Then we will be successful.
