My Hometown

When talking about my hometown, Yichang, many people may wonder “Where is it?” However when we say the Three Gorges Dam, almost everyone knows it. Actually Yichang is where the dam lies.
The Three Gorges Dam is the world’s largest hydropower project and most notorious dam. It not only reveals natural scenery, but also the technology of modern civilization. This 185-meter high dam spans the Yangtze River, aiming to preventing floods and electric. Viewing from the dam, you will see limpid river water flowing eastwards. It nearly links with the blue sky. Mountains on river banks undulate pleasantly. Islands are scattered all along the river like stars in the sky. It is really a feast for your eyes.
Despite the world-famous dam, there are many other tourist spots for you to enjoy. Interspersed with many rivers and mountains, Yichang provide you an excellent chance to get close to nature and interact with it. Among those rivers and hills, the most famous ones are the Yangze River and the Mingfeng Mountain.
“Mingfeng” in Chinese means “singing phoenix”. The mountain got its name from a huge stone on the top of the mountain which looks exactly like a phoenix singing. It is famous not only for the beautiful scenery but also as a holy place for Taoists. Every year especially on the second day of Chinese New Year, many people would come to climb the mountain with sincere hearts and worship immortals at the top of the mountain. Since the mountain is not very high, trekking to the top is not very strenuous. Breathing fresh air, listening birds singing and enjoying green plants can really release you from the modern world of stress and anxiety.
As a city with more than a thousand years history, Yichang also owns a lot of heritage, for example, the battlefield of the Three Kingdoms and the temple of Wang Zhaojun who was one of the most beautiful women in ancient China.
The places I mentioned above are just parts of where you can visit. More interesting places are waiting for you to explore.

  2. It is always a dream for me to go to see the Three Gorges Dam. It is such a architectural marvel that really raises our national pride, despite that many people criticize it for a waste of natural resources and a huge impact on the ecologic environment of the surroundings. I think we can just accept its existence as we do to the Great Wall and the Summer Palace, which were both severely criticized when they were being built and in later history. Enjoy reading your blog very much. Thank you!
