When others lose, will you win?
Last week, our professor spoke this title out in front of all SM3 students. At this word, I feel shocked and until then did I realize that I had been misled so far away.
Since primary school years, I have been taught that there was just one winner. Only the one who get the highest marks is the winner. And I have seen that there is just one champion in each sports game (if there is more than one, it must be a team match). So I made a conclusion that in a certain match one wins or loses and cooperation only happens when necessary. So it is very reasonable to make further conclusion that when others lose, I will have a high chance to win.
Then I thought over this sentence, and came to know where I was wrong. In some cases there is just one winner, where the competitors are on contrary side. While in most conditions, things would not go that way. Google never employ just one talent, and we need more cooperation than competition.
So, there is no need to be excellent in all aspects, and do not need to win over everybody. Whom I need to beat is just myself.

ReplyDeleteIt impresses me deeply that whom I need to beat is just myself.I cannot agree more.It has been highlighted that we are faced with more and more firce competition nowadays so we have to struggle to defeat others in whichever ways.As a consequence,we are happy to see others lose, which is supposed to increase our chance to success. After reading your blog, I suddenly find what we believed is totally wrong. What the modern world demands more is the capacity of teamwork and cooperation.Only by sharing the ideas and discuss the strategies can we improve ourselves and achieve our consistent goal.
ReplyDeleteI have the same feeling as you. In primary school and secondary school, I just thought that when I got the highest mark, I was the winner. So ,to some extent, I became very aggressive. I always to be first in every subjects. I could not achieve this goal. I began eo wonder whether the target was practical. After four years, I know that when others lost, it does not decessarily mean that you will win. You can also lose. If you do nothing to cope with the competition, you will lose without learning anything from it. The others learn something useful. Then you will be the loser, while others will be the winners. Cooperation is also very important. You can learn somthing you never heard of before. Even though you lose, you will learn something impotant to you. So let's fight for ourselves and cooperate with each other.
ReplyDeleteThe quality of our life depends on money as well as our attitude. We do not need to be the first in every competition. It is difficult and impossible. I think that our professor means we should not have too much pressure on our way of pursuing success. We should not relate winning to success. Success is our own judgement about ourselves. It has nothing to do with others, which means that we do not have to care about people's thought. As for me, I think if I become a cook in the future which helps people enjoy the food, I am successful. I do not have to be a millionaire to prove something. Of course, to be outstanding, we still need to go ahead. We need to work harder than others.
