Audrey Hepburn

As one of American Film Institute’s 100 Years’ 100 Stars, Audrey Hepburn has been admired by many people all over the world till now. Her charm not only resulted from her appearance, but also came from her spirit.
Hepburn was born on May 4th 1929 in Brussels. When she was 6, she moved to Arnhem the Netherlands with her mother because of her parents’ divorce. There she attended the Arnhem Conservatory from 1939 to 1945 and trained in ballet. In 1940, the Germans invaded the Netherlands. During the Nazi occupation, she secretly danced for groups of people to collect money and conveyed information for the Dutch resistance. After the war, she left home to go on persuading her dream of becoming a prima ballerina. However her height and poor nutrition during the war kept her from realizing her dream. Then she decided to ply her trade as an actress.
It was not until 1953 when the film Rome Holiday was showed did her acting career really take off. In the film Hepburn played the part of Princess Annie, who was exhaustively fed up with her busy and restrictive life as a princess and ran away from the palace when she was on her visit to Rome. When she was out of the palace, she met a journalist,spent a wonderful and exciting day with him and finally fell in love with him. After seen the movie many people was fascinated by her noble and elegant temperament, beautiful appearance, slim body and a sense of innocent and pure.
After Rome Holiday, as one of the world most successful actress, she filmed Sabrina, The Nun's Story, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Wait Until Dark and many other famous movies which all received high valuations.
In her sunset, she stepped into public welfare. She was appointed a goodwill ambassador to the United Nations Children’s Fund. Hoping to help impoverished children, Hepburn travelled to many poor nations. She had been to Sudan, Guatemala, Honduras and many other countries in Asia and Africa. Even in September 1992, four months before she died, Hepburn went to Somalia.
Hepburn passed away on January 20th 1993. However her glittering life will never be forgotten by the world. The images she created on screen will long be memorized by people together with her figure as a kind angel who concerned and cared children suffering starvation and illness.
