Edward scissorhands

Last week Ruifeng recommended a movie to me. Its name was Edward scissorhands. I also like this movie very much, so today I introduce it to you.

In an old castle lived an old talent inventor, who had invented many things. One day he even created a robot, and named him Edward. He devoted all his time and energy to Edward, just like his father. He even taught him poems and ceremonies, like when to smile, when to keep quiet and so on. However, the inventor died before the robot was finished completely, leaving Edward live in this old castle lonely. His hands were still scissors, while his inside was the same with a normal man.

One day, a woman named Peg came to the castle by accident and discovered Edward. The kind-hearted Peg felt pity about his loneliness so she took him home.

Edward’s scissorhands were very skillful. He could prune the plant into all kinds of shapes, like dinosaur, bear, dancing girl, and all of Peg’s family members. He could design the women’s fancy haircut, as well as the dogs’. All the neighbors liked him.

Things changed when he was infatuated with Kim, Peg’s daughter, whose boyfriend was Jim. Jim had a rich family. He wanted to steal his own father’s money to buy a car. He knew Edward’s scissorhands could unlock the door easily. So he enticed King into persuading Edward to unlock the door. Edward did this, but, unluckily, when he came into Jim’s father’s house, he was caught by police. Afraid of involving Kim in this case, he didn’t say the fact and recognize that he was the only person to steal money. He was considered that he didn’t know what’s right and what’s wrong as a result of being separated from people for so long, so he was released. Actually, he had every human’s feeling, and knew the ethics exactly. He did this just because it was Kim that let him do.

Luckily, Kim began to like him and recognize her boyfriend’s blackness. However, Edward even could not hug Kim because of his scissorhands. And since this case, people regarded him as a dangerous person and stopped liking him.

On the Christmas Eve, he carved a big ice into Kim’s shape. The falling small ice pieces flied like snow. Kim danced in the “snow” happily. She was so excited that she wanted to hug Edward, and, of course, was hurt by his hands. Her boyfriend Jim fought with him. Such things happened again and again. The more Edward wanted to do good things, the more deeply people misunderstood him.

Eventually, all people in this town wanted to expel him back to the old castle, and even Peg thought the old castle was his best place. During the fight in the old castle, Edward killed Kim’s evil boyfriend. And Kim accepted his innocent love, for the first time, as well as the last time.

From then on, Edward lived lonely in the old castle, where he pruned his plant, craved his ice, and recalled his love. Kim grew old gradually, but she never forgot Edward. On a snowy night, she told her granddaughter this fairy story.

Edward sacrificed his everything for Kim until he was expelled. Even though Kim loved him, too, she couldn’t live with him in the old castle. It was because her love was still “worldly” love. However, Edward’s love was the most innocent love, but too innocent to exist in this world. So Edward maybe really belong to the old castle only. That’s my reflection. I think it’s a good movie.
