Several days ago, Mrs Hillary Clinton went to Beijing for the second time and she met the president HuJingtao, the premier WenJiabao and the Chinese Foreign Minister Yangjiechi. The newspaper Straits Times said that she made every right move and said every right word in her maiden trip to Beijing as Secretary of State of the United States. She left the human rights off the agenda, which showed her good attitude towards China. As is known to us, in the famous speech she made in 1995, also in Beijing, Mrs Hillary Clinton seriously lectured Beijing on human rights issue. But now a professor from Renming University of China said, “If she lecture Beijing on human rights issue this time, China will lecture her on economy.” This sounds quite funny. It is true that the whole world is suffering from the Global Financial crisis now and the situation in America seems much severe. Maybe the purpose of Mrs Hillary’s visit to Beijing is to find cooperation with China to solve the big problem confronting the whole world. It is believed that China, as such a big economy around the world, has the capacity to take lead in the battle against the crisis.
Despite her hawkish image towards China, Mrs Hillary showed a really strong desire to reinforce the bilateral relationship between these two countries, or Sino-US relationship, which is much more popular. Just before she came to Beijing, she had even made a really friendly speech related to China in America. She cited a famous Chinese proverb. She said, “When you are in one boat, you should cross the river peacefully together.” Obviously the proverb is Tongzhougongji in Chinese. Apparently Mrs Hilary thought that China and America were in the same boat and they should handle it together. The premier WenJiabao responded to her with another Chinese idiom Xieshougongjin, which means marching forward hand in hand. This time, Chinese leaders were really delighted with her humility and friendliness. Mrs Hillary herself was also praised by many mass media for her “proverb diplomacy”.

No one can deny that Mrs Clinton is a wise politician. When she was the first lady of USA, she successfully handle the sex scandal of his husband Bill Clinton with his secretary. After Bill's presidency, she competed in the political stage, and became the Democratic Senator. Although in the later election of the president candidate in the Democracy party, she was beaten by Mr Obama, she still left us deep impression through her excellent ability of giving a speech and her strong desire of success. Now she is the State Secratary of USA, and her performance will influence the situation of world's politics to a large degree. So we should keep a close eye to her action.
