After spending over two months in Singapore, I had my first concert in Victoria Concert Hall last night. I am not a fan in classical music, but I must admit that yesterday’s performance was wonderful. It was played by Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra.
Most of the audience were Europeans and I think it was because a good atmosphere in Europe. But to my surprise, there were not enough people in the concert hall and I chose a front seat together with my roommates to enjoy the concert. The first one they performed was a violin concerto composed by Beethoven in 1806. It was my favorite last night. The beautiful melody blended with the perfect performing skill of orchestra naturally and what impressed me most was the first violin: Darin Varbanov. He graduated from the State Musical Academy- Sofia, Bulgaria, where he got his master degree. His performing skill was fine and smooth. He expressed the emotion of composer appropriately. The other two parts were difficult for me and I did not understand them completely. Sometimes I even felt that they were a little boring.
But I think the misunderstanding of music is due to my musical appreciation level. I was not educated in musical environment when I was a little boy. Nevertheless, I still think there is a way to improve. Singapore is a fantastic place for cultural communication especially for music. There is free concert in City Hall every month and we can have a try for musical improvement.
Music is magic and it can change our life standard. Although it was already 11.pm when I returned to Eton Hall last night, I think it was a precious experience for me.
